Fulton County 2010 Property Tax Bills Will Be Arriving Soon

The Fulton County Board of Tax Assessors has completed the preparation of the 2010 property tax digest, and it has been submitted to the Georgia Department of Revenue for approval.  Because there are a large number of property value appeals still to be settled, a temporary collection order was granted by Superior Court Chief Judge Cynthia Wright.

The temporary collection order allows Fulton County to bill and collect on the 2010 tax digest values at the millage rates established by the respective governing bodies (county, school board and city) except as follows:

 1) Any real or personal property appealed for 2010 or a prior year will be temporarily billed at 85% of the 2010 assessed value.

 2) Any real or personal property that is identified by the Tax Commissioner as having a problem would be temporarily billed at 85% of the 2010 assessed value.

When the Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Revenue approves the 2010 digest, or the appeal/issue is resolved, the County may re-bill property owners for the remaining amounts due based on the 2010 digest and in accordance with law.

Dr. Arthur Ferdinand, Fulton County Tax Commissioner, began mailing out tax bills during the week of August 16th.  The deadline for paying your Fulton County Government taxes is
October 31, 2010.

Dear Citizens of Fulton County District 3,

It has been a privilege to serve the citizens of North Fulton for the past 6 years as Fulton County Commissioner for District 3. As your Commissioner, I have been able to actively participate in many of the exciting changes that have occurred in North Fulton, none more important than the creation of the new cities of Sandy Springs, Johns Creek and Milton.

During my term of service, I assisted with the smooth transition of services from Fulton County to the new Cities, each of which has been a resounding success. The North Fulton Municipal Association was subsequently established to allow the cities to work together on local and state issues for the collective benefit of all North Fulton residents, an initiative that I have also been actively engaged in from the beginning. Three new libraries will be built in North Fulton, and I am proud of the collective efforts that went into achieving this goal. We now have a Community Prosecutor Office in North Fulton. I worked closely on the reforms for the Grady Health System, which has brought transparency and accountability to the taxpayers of Fulton County. Under my leadership, a post retirement benefits trust fund has been established in Fulton County, which will reduce the burden for these obligations on taxpayers in the future.

I have also had the honor to serve on two legislative advisory committees to study and make recommendations to improve government service delivery in North Fulton. I have served on many legislative policy committees for the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia and the National Association of Counties.

In January of 2011, I will be sworn in as the District 50 Representative in the Georgia General Assembly. As a State Representative, I look forward to building on the work of these committees to pass laws to implement many of these recommendations and improve our quality of life in areas like tax reform, transportation, water and education. I am excited by the opportunity to work closely with the members of the North Fulton Delegation, who have achieved great success in so many areas of government that are critical to us.

Our community, our region and our state have many challenges ahead of us. The commitment I make to you is to work each and every day to make North Fulton a better place for our families, schools and businesses.

It is an honor to serve you!

Sincerely,

Lynne Riley
Commissioner, District 3
